DetailsIn 1937, the Austrian Federal Railways commissioned eight locomotives from the Floridsdorf locomotive factory, based on the German E 18 design, for service on the newly electrified Western Railway. Following the war, these locomotives were classified by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) as the 1018 series.
The 1018 locomotives underwent several modifications at ÖBB, with the most noticeable change being the redesign of their front ends. Additionally, the main switch and other electrical components were updated to comply with ÖBB’s standard specifications.
The 1018 series remained in use until the early 1990s, with locomotive 1018.05 preserved for nostalgic operations until 2001, highlighting its enduring legacy in Austrian railway history.
